AU Information

AU Name: Shadowheart; just as in canon, her real name has been erased from her memory.
AU Age: 24
Physical Differences: She will be missing her elven ears and have human ones in their place. As of her current canon point, she would normally have dyed her hair white, but her AU self won't have made this cosmetic change.
AU History: BG3 Spoilers!
  • Shadowheart was born Jenevelle Hallowleaf, the daughter of a couple belonging to an extended family of vampire hunters dedicated to resisting vampire control and securing rights and sanctuary for humans. At the age of nine, she accompanied her father into the woods for an ordinary hunting trip, where they found themselves surrounded by vampires, most notable among them the Black Court vampire that would later become her Maker. Shadowheart remembers fragments of this evening, but not cohesively, the clearest memory being led from the woods by the hand by her future Maker.

  • Her Maker proceeded to erase her memories upon arrival at her new home within the Black Court's lands, having hand-selected the girl as part of a grand experiment: the goal was to select a child from a family that openly opposed their kind and to raise her in their own image to prove that a person's nature could be discarded entirely, with the intent to shape her into an efficient and devoted member of the Black Court.

  • Shadowheart was raised to live by Black Court values alongside a handful of others who were not yet of age to be turned. During these years, she was often isolated from the others and had her memory tampered with a number of times, usually as punishment if she were to stray from her studies, fail to follow her Maker's orders, or otherwise disappoint her, which was fairly frequently. Eventually, Shadowheart became an extremely dedicated and by-the-books student, hungrily looking forward to her time at Castle Courtsheart not only to prove herself worthy of the Court, but to also finally have some semblance of freedom as it would allow her some distance from her Maker.

  • Though she would not currently recognize them if she saw them, the human couple that Shadowheart was taken from as a child are thralls in the castle, a trump card to be used by her Maker should she ever find herself in a position to force her hand.

  • Her first three seasons have gone without incident. She is not popular among her fellow novices, who often find her to be cold or something of a know-it-all, but she is tirelessly devoted to her studies. She has had an easier time connecting with those who are older and more experienced than her, likely as she is very precocious and doesn't seem to think much of her peers, most notably having formed friendships with Diluc Ragnvindr and Tighnari, though as she enters her fourth season and her Becoming is fast-approaching, she is slowly beginning to wonder how she might have fared if she had chosen her own path instead of following the one set before her.

AU Personality: Shadowheart's AU personality will be much the same as it appears in canon, at least during the first two acts. While not entirely cold, she can be distant and prefers to keep people at arm's length, insisting on being elusive and secretive. She does not speak about herself or her upbringing often, and almost never speaks of her Maker despite being in constant contact with her. She is rigidly devoted to her studies, determined to achieve excellence and become a shining example of what the Black Court stands for. She is hungry, driven, competitive, and unwilling to compromise regarding her goals and is often a believer in ends justifying means.

All of that said, much like in canon, even when she is presenting herself as being a hardened individual, she is not entirely without compassion. She is largely pragmatic and is unafraid of violence or pain being used as necessary tools, but does frown upon unnecessary cruelty (cruelty that she feels is just is perfectly fine, however). While she does not often speak of it openly, she is uncomfortable with the way some vampires view humans, and has pity in her heart for all those who end up as thralls, thinking it a miserable and undeserved end, though she would never want to be caught saying so. Contributing to openly merciful acts, however, causes her physical pain she has never been able to explain, thanks to her Maker, and so she avoids them when possible.

As ever, Shadowheart is a lonely soul. This is largely by her Maker's design, but partly her own, as well— she feels that she cannot afford to be distracted from her focus, her goals, and being raised as she was among the Black Court and in their traditions, she feels that letting anyone close to her will leave her vulnerable and exposed, something she has been taught that she cannot afford. Her seasons as a novice have begun to soften her somewhat, thanks to the influence of those she has been fortunate enough to call mentors, even friends, but she is still cautious about straying too far from who she has been told she is supposed to be.

  • Novice Information

    Starting Season: Fourth
    Maker: Nameless NPC
Anticipated Court: Black. The dangerous and shadowy nature of the Black Court, right down to them being the Nameless House, is an excellent parallel to Shadowheart's life as a worshipper of Shar in canon. Because of her AU backstory, her Maker hand-selected her with the intention of shaping her into an ideal Black Court enforcer, so she's never been allowed to consider another path, but may struggle with this choice later on as she starts to regain memories.
